About the eye bank : The eye bank today

Drushti daan has been active for past several years in spearheading eye-banking movement in the state of Orissa.

It has been our constant endeavor to further improve our performance both qualitatively and quantitatively and we have been committed to developing a Community Eye Bank in the state of Orissa.

L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Bhubaneswar (a pioneer institution prividing Eye care facilities and highly experienced in the practices of eye banking) has provided the infrastructure for drushti daan in their campus. Eyesight International, Canada, has supported drushti daan by providing funds for medical equipments, surgical instruments and other facilities to function as a Community Eye Bank at Bhubaneswar.

drushti daan community eye bank was inagurated by Shri Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Orissa, on 3rd July 2007.

drushti daan community eye bank is now housed within the campus of the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Bhubaneswar and is managed by a governing body consisting of five members of drushti daan and two members of L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Bhubaneswar .

All the activities of drushti daan eye bank are in accordance with the Government of India's Transplantation of Human Organs Act of 1994/95 and guidelines of Eye Bank Association of India.

With its world-class infrastructure, experienced, qualified and trained manpower, persistent public awareness programmes on eye donation, hospital cornea retrieval programmes coupled with a network of eye collection centers, drushti daan eye bank ensures increased cornea harvesting and equitable quality cornea distribution for the benefit of the corneal blind.
