About the eye bank : Background
In the year 2002 drushti daan was brought into existence in Bhubaneswar with the help, dedication and untiring efforts of a few well meaning individuals having a desire to meaningfully contribute to the corneal blind in the State of Orissa, India .
Before drushti daan came into existence there was no Eye Bank, not even a Cornea Collection Centre, at Bhubaneswar .
Relentless planning and groundwork along with the guidance and advice of few doctors and eminent people, brought drushtidaan it's registration as a Society under the Registration of Societies Act XXII of 1860 on the 6th March 2002. In the month of April it became an Institutional Life Member of the Eye Bank Association of India.
drushti daan was formed to Promote Eye Donation and to Combat Corneal Blindness, in Orissa by establishing an Eye Banking System having a 2-tier structure encompassing a Nodal Eye Bank and Cornea Collection Centres to ensure adequate collection, evaluation & preservation and distribution of quality Corneal tissues for transplant to the needy free of cost.
Zeal, dedication, a high level of professional management, continuous and sustained effort to conduct awareness programmes and promote eye donation, is what drushti daan is all about.
